A Festival of Lessons and Carols

Each year the Roden girl choristers perform a Festival of Lessons and Carols in the Aa Kerk in Groningen, completely according to Anglican tradition. The story of Christmas will be told in English (!) and the choristers will sing traditional Christmas carols. As if you are in a cathedral in England!
The choristers will sing familiar and less familiar christmas carols, while the Aa-Kerk will be beautifully decorated with hundreds of candles.
Choir and programme
The choir will be directed by Sonja de Vries, whilst being accompanied by Sietze de Vries on the organs. The unsurpassed arrangements of David Willcocks in Sussex Carol, Birthday Carol and God rest you merry, gentlemen will be alternated with somewhat more complex harmonies in This little Babe from A Ceremony of Carols of Benjamin Britten. Herbert Sumsion Compositions as What sweeter music of John Rutter and an arrangement of Silent Night of Sieze de Vries and John Rutter will be performed as well. The Roden Girl Voices, an ensemble of more advanced choristers within the choir, will sing their own repertoire as well. Even the youngest girls from the training choir will join in their first encounter with this tradition.
Tickets can be bought here (17,50 pre-sale; donators 15,00; 12-minors 3,00; tickets at the door 20,00). Tickets can also be bought at the Boekhandel Daan Nijman in Roden and in the UMCG.
